I love how you sketch! That's incredible, this started from a few shadowy strokes and turned into a completely realistic masterpiece. Lovely lovely work!

How did you get to the first step? Did you create a rough sketch before that? I don't see how you got to step one or how you would get from step one to step two.
In step two I can see the shape of his body so that makes sense. but step one just seems like a bunch of lines. Do you mind explaining? ^^

No lines... I started with a bunch of lines to define the outlines a bit. Then I kept on filling in until it had nice values :D

I like how the eyes shift until he starts looking at you. Other than that, I think the method/process you took is really great for understanding the shadows and highlights. Great job on the final image.

wow, thats a way to make the old masters proud. Nice painterly technique there man ^~^

Do you already have swatch presets as far as skin tone goes? Cause that seems like it would work rather awesomely. Any change of hue and the like you wish to do, all you have to press is ctrl+U
lol, that rhymed XD

I hope we're talking about the art program here and not the art of turning stuff into gold, right? ;) Yep, I love dicking around in it, but haven't been able to actually do something good in it yet. Still, distorting drawings with music and more, it's awesome.

Ofcourse the program. Yeah, I think it's great if you're in some kind of artblock. :D

Just as a curiosity did you use any historical reference ... in order to get his portrait right?

Awesome!
I presume that behind all this talent is countless hours of life drawing!

I'm still at that stage where I'm trying to make my drawings look at least remotely similar to my subjects!
Any advice? (so that i can get to draw historical figures)

how does the first step help you?Is it just a choice not to do the conventional way for sketching a form first or do you find it easier for you to do that? its interesting! :P

:iconnorke:
